Weathering Wind, Waves and the Storms of Life – Where is God in the tragedy

Reading my devotion this morning and watching a story about potential Tsunami after earthquakes in the Indian Ocean – reminded about the story about Jesus in Matthew 14:22-33 when Jesus had the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him.    The story tells us that the boat was in the midst of the see, tossed with waves!  The middle of the storm!   And as Jesus approaches, the says – it is I, be not afraid!  That is God’s message to us- be not afraid.  I AM.

In the storms of life, God is there!  He is loudly annoucing  I Am!  Not – I was there, or will be but just a solid I AM.  Heb 13:8 – I am the bread of life, I am the light of the world, I am the gate, I am the good shepherd, I am God’s Son, I am the resurrection and the life, I am the way, the truth and life!  Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tommorrow.

Max Lucado in his book Next Door Savior talks about the story of Frank Silecchia.  He was a construction worker who was a voluneter at the World Trade Center.  He was really hoping to make sense of everything there, and hoped to find a live person and rescue them.   Instead he found 47 dead bodies.  Amid the destruction, he stumbled upon a symbol, a twenty-foot- tall steel beam cross. Here is the youtube video about it.
